PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

THE MEANING OF INFORMAL EDUCATION FOR DEMOCRATIC CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION
Active citizens should have the ability to cooperate and act for social change. Education for democratic citizenship should therefore devote attention to two areas: the formal and legislative framework of rights and obligations in representative democracy, and the empowerment of individuals in the scope of changing social structures and processes. The second area is being successfully developed in practice by trainers from the non-governmental sector with informal education. The project is specifically aimed at three world-renowned good practises of participatory art, which it introduces into the context of civil and social competences.

PARTICIPATORY ART AS A TOOL FOR EDUCATORS
The programme is based on the exchange of experiences and concrete skills among partner organisations (learning partnership). More than 40 youth workers, trainers, organisation managers and pedagogic staff exchanged three forms of participatory art among each other: Creative writing Loesje, Theatre of the Oppressed, and Social-changing multimedia. All three forms were combined by the partners, thus creating a joint educational programme for empowering citizens, which was tested locally on different target groups. They prepared a handbook for educators and audio-video tutorials as supplemental explanations of exercises in the handbook. All exercises and forms of participatory art were presented on an e-platform which enables browsing between individual exercises.
