PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
ENCOURAGING PRODUCTION, SALE AND USE OF HIGH-QUALITY, LOCALLY-PRODUCED FOOD
The event aims at raising comprehensive awareness in the area of Slovenian Istra (Municipalities of Koper, Izola, Piran and Ankaran), not only about the importance of using quality food for health purposes, but also about the economic importance of local food self-sufficiency and the impact of sustainable food production and processing, on both the environment and the quality of life.
ORGANIC AND LOCALLY-PRODUCED FOOD MARKET, WITH A RICH ACCOMPANYING PROGRAMME
The Europe Direct Koper – Capodistria info point and PiNA organise the event Dan zdrave Istre (Day of Healthy Istra) – an organic and locally-produced food market. The programme is traditionally held in the Pietro Coppo park in Izola, and includes a market where the farmers from Slovenian and Croatian Istra present their produce and local societies offer the visitors the purchase and tasting of organically-grown delicacies (olive oil, pickled olives, olive liqueurs, jams, organic honey …), home-made cosmetics (soap, creams, peelings …) and seasonal fruit and vegetables.
Aside from the market, there are also the following activities: seed exchange for home gardeners, cooking demonstrations and tastings, info booths and a children’s playground.
