PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
ELECTIONS FOR THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT WITH YOUTHS ON POLLING STATIONS
2014 was the year of the European Parliament elections. 71°% of voters younger than 25 years did not vote in 2009, which is why the Government Communication Office, the Information Office of the European Parliament in Slovenia and the Representation of the European Commission in Slovenia tried to bring EU institutions closer to youths and encourage them to participate in processes of democratic decision-making. The purpose of EU SI TI is to improve youths’ knowledge about EU citizens’ rights, strengthen active youth citizenship, raise awareness about the European voting right, enable them to understand the workings of EU institutions, and encourage their participation in the elections.
ACTIVITIES FOR STRENGHTENING ACTIVE PARTICIPATION OF YOUTHS IN THE EU
More than 1200 youths were involved in the main project activities: 36 workshops of active citizenship in secondary schools with a competitive system, 4 round tables on faculties, 2 national conferences, and a tender for the logo, slogan and video. There were 12 videos, 3 radio programmes, 1 handbook about decision-making in the European Union, 25 questions for youths in the form of a web quiz, 19 photo-documented events and more than 200 published news items, both on the sub page eusiti.pina.si and on related social media (Facebook and Twitter).
