PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
EQUALITY AMONG MEMBERS OF NATIONAL GROUPS OF NATIONS OF FORMER YUGOSLAVIA
After Slovenia gained independence, the members of local national groups from former Yugoslavia were faced with a situation of unregulated systemic status. Since they are not recognised as official minorities they are faced with challenges which hinder their proactive participation in decision-making processes in the Slovenian society and their general participation to civil life. The goal of the project is to empower the members of the aforementioned national groups, raising awareness in the target and general public about the problems and rights of unrecognised minorities, all the while achieving a change of the local institutional framework of the discussed target group, which thing will promote understanding and intercultural dialogue.
PROJECT ACTIVITIES:
We perform a series of activities with which we are going to supply the target group with comprehensive support in exercising and promoting their rights, among which: a junction of NGO members of national groups of former Yugoslavia; free legal aid and consulting in cooperation with the The Centre for the Legal Protection of Human Rights in Piran; advocating (for) right(s) of the target group on the local level (performed by the advocacy working group); workshops and interactive theatre forms, i.e.: the Theatre of the Oppressed (forum and legislative theatre); a free quarterly periodical; a report about human rights violations of the target group, written by the Centre for the Legal Protection of Human Rights in Piran; a discussion about the position of unrecognised groups, where members of national groups together with researchers, experts in the field of minorities and others will participate.
TANGIBLE RESULTS:
