PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
A PILOT PROJECT AIMED AT PROMOTING THE PARTICIPATION OF HIGH-SCHOOL STUDENTS AND SCHOOL COMMUNITIES
An early cooperation in decision-making processes, which affect students’ lives, is crucial for their entry in an active citizenship. It is also crucial for the awareness of their own obligations and rights, as well as the ability to take responsibility for them. In this context, high school could – and should – play a role of a meeting point where students would acquire knowledge, tools and experience regarding active citizenship and participation.
The project addresses three key target groups in three European countries (Portugal, Poland and Slovenia): (1) high-school students, (2) professors and (3) other relevant participators (parents, other school workers, local communities, interested public).
PROJECT ACTIVITIES:
ESTABLISHMENT OF A SCHOOLS’ PARTICIPATORY REFERENTIAL SCALE
The project partners will implement the following activities:
elaboration of the existing material regarding the participation in schools in all three partner countries;
identify models of participatory citizenship in schools;
demonstrative and promotional events with key actors;
establishment of local consortium (local authorities, professionals, NGO representatives, youth organizations representatives, school representatives as well as the interested public, with the aim of elaborating a participatory reference scale);
schools’ participatory scale to be elaborated in the future also by other schools in the EU;
local seminars regarding participation, reference scale and opportunities for its implementation;
strategic plan for schools involved in the project with the aim of achieving the highest possible level of participation during and after the project implementation period;
promotion of active citizenship of high-school students through the development of their sense of belonging and promotion of their participation in decision-making;
international conference on participatory schools.
